Gaga over Lea

Thanks to April, I am now officially a Lea Salonga fanatic.
It all started when she uploaded Lea’s Ms. Saigon audition on her blog. I must have watched it over 20 times last night, maybe a dozen times today. I don’t know if it was her youthful innocence, her earnest fascination, or her amazing talent, but I was hooked big time. I went to YouTube, watched all her interviews and more music clips. And the more I listened to her sing, and talked about her life, the more I wanted to be her best friend. Ha ha. So guess what I did next? Looked up her Multiply, myspace and Friendster accounts! And yup, she updates them herself. And regularly too.
I’ve never really been a big fan of any one. (Well, maybe except Oprah.) But today, I am overwhelmed by her talent, sheer determination and drive to be better everyday, as a singer, wife and Mum (yes, I looked up her daughter’s baby pics too!).
How can I not admire her? An achiever all her life (primary and high school valedictorian, Tony and Olivier Awards awardee etc), who is genuinely humble, down to earth and unfazed by fame. Talk about beauty, brains and heart.
A British boss and friend told me once, " We’re defined by the people we choose to surround ourselves with." And it is true. It’s the law of action and reaction. Karma, confucianism, whatever you call it. Kindness does beget kindness. Maybe it just isn’t talent or luck that made Lea who she is today. Maybe it’s a bit of soul as well.
I’ve used up my allowed broadband package pack today (1GB), but I am overflowing with inspiration and motivation. To be great, even in my own little, insignificant way. To sing with passion even if I can’t carry a tune. To live and believe that tomorrow is pregnant with friendships and opportunities. And to dream that I will harvest that which I’ve sown.
