Friends make life more fulfilling

Second day of the month and here I am looking back at the first half of the year. Where did the days go? Time does fly when I’m having fun. And it’s no secret, the last six months have probably been the happiest since I moved here five years ago.
So, how is my life different now? Friends. Lots of ‘em. All sorts of colours, ages and sizes. All beautiful, genuine and caring people. They have filled my life with excitement. More importantly, with giddy anticipation.
I’ve never been so "socially busy"… Ok, this is probably not true. IHMC days I had Girl Scouts (Yup, laging handa!), COM (that’s Children of Mary, to my non-Catholic friends), Pangkat Timbulan(Theatre) and Blue Mantle (ehem Filipino editor). UP days, I also joined the theatre, was founding member of three new university organizations, and later became the president of two. And 141 days were "officially" social. Haha. Marge, Rach, Ann and HP, remember our clubbing days that start at 8am and finish at 4am? (Man, those were the days of natural highs.)
I guess, what I’m saying here is, I’ve always been a social person. I love interacting with people. I love finding out what people’s stories are, and intertwining their stories with mine.
When I first moved here, I was awestruck by how beautiful the country is. This is an artist’s nirvana. The scenery is breath taking Mornings are gloriously bold and striking. Evenings are mysteriously shy and alluring. And the hours in between are moody, but still beautiful.
But I missed not having friends. I craved telebabad, spur-of-the-moment-lakwatsa, chismisan-galore and even the quiet confidence of knowing you have someone watching your back.
Last Monday, I saw Harry Potter with friends. Last Friday, girl friends and I watched an Irish musical. Over the weekend, we went to Alec’s orchids farm. This week, had coffee with friends. Also stayed in a friend’s place to watch a cheesy American teenage movie. And once a week, DB cooks me lunch. And I’m not even counting the number of text messages, emails and phone calls. Haaayyy, ang sarap ng buhay.
Having friends is truly a blessing. And I am grateful for them everyday.
